At WRAA we pride ourselves on Getting Involved outside of our normal HQ  and engage with other groups and the general public. Throughout the year we normally get involved with the same events, but always on the lookout for more where we can operate out demonstration station.

Thinking Day On the Air (TDOTA)
3rd Weekend in February

This is a Girl Guide event, normally organised by Worcester District, but this can change from year to year. Many of the Guides are being instructed towards their communication badges, and we run many different activities for them as well as getting them on the air.

We really enjoy this event, as the girls always seem confident enough to have a go and not be embarrassed about talking on the radio.

National Science Week
Normally in March

This is an event which we normally participate in every 2 years, any more frequent then this and we end up seeing the same people. This national event really does get young folk thinking about science, and what could be more sciency than amateur radio?

Airfields On The Air (AOTA)
Normally in April

This is an annual event organised by the Amateur radio community. It is intended as an activity weekend, where existing and disued RAF airfields and bases are activated by means of an amateur radio station. Each contact made with a participating station counts towards an award.

We operate from Perdiswell in Worcester. This was the site of an RAF training base prior to and during the war. Its claims to fame are numerous, it was the Worlds FIRST municipal aerodrome, Clarke Gable crashed his dakota here and the Kings flight was stationed here for the duration of the war.

Stourport On Severn Vintage Steam Rally
Normally in July

This is an annual event which we have been attending since 2011. We set up a demonstration station here to promote the hobby and the club. Normally we take it in turns to operate the radio and collect refreshments from the beer tent, as you can probably guess, not much radio happens this weekend!
