THE 3RD WORCESTER SCOUTS DESPERATELY NEED YOUR HELP......

There aren't many Scout Groups who have their own building nowadays, but 3rd Worcester are lucky that they do and have been there for over 40 years. The building itself was constructed by Scout group members many years ago, and while they made a great job of it, it is showing its age.

The 3rd Worcester Scouts are in an area of the City where money is tight, and this means that they just don't have the spare cash that many more affluent groups do. WRAA members help where they can by providing the manpower to help maintain the building, but unfortunately the group lacks the finances to update the amenities and make them nicer to use.

Take a look at the photo's by clicking HERE to see what we mean.

The Toilet facilities desperately need upgrading and the room needs gutting and re-constructing so that the water pipes don't freeze up. Currently they have to use an electric heater to stop this from happening, and this increases the bill by an EYE WATERING amount!

The kitchen is nearly 20 years old, and many of the cupboards have damp and mildew in them, again this needs gutting and re-constructing to provide a warmer, damp free environment. They are currently unable to do any cooking in the kitchen as it just isn't hygienic enough.

So..... they are looking for friendly local people and businesses to come forward and offer some help, this can be offering muscle power, materials or financial support, but anything they can be given is going to help the cause for sure.

So, if you can find it in your hearts or your Bank balance to help them, please do.

email the group Secretary if you can help or need more information on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

THINKING DAY ON THE AIR 2012 - A GREAT SUCCESS

After a break of around 4 years, members of the WRAA were invited by the Worcester Girl Guides to run a special station for TDOTA. Using the special event callsign GB0WOR the WRAA members were on the air on Saturday morning right through until the small hours of Sunday morning (trust me when I say the small hours..webmaster)

Saturday, 2.30pm saw the young folk arrive at the Perdiswell Young Peoples Centre, and begin the various activities, our Amateur Radio station being one of them. Between 2.30pm and 6pm we managed to get every one of them, bar a handful of shy one's on the air, no mean feat when you consider that the actual number was 148.

One thing for sure, they seemed to enjoy talking to stations all over the world

We would like to thank Worcester Girl Guides for their hospitality and keeping us fed and watered too

Looking forward to the next one already
